PRL Rallies on AI Growth Despite Mining Supply Risks
Pearl’s PRL has climbed more than 300% in a month to around $1.40, after falling as low as $0.23 following its May peak. The rally has coincided with increased network hashrate and new AI product announcements, though the token’s expanding supply and uncertain value capture remain key risks for traders.
Pearl combines GPU mining with AI computing through a Proof-of-Useful-Work model. It says it has joined NVIDIA Inception and is opening a serverless inference platform with seven OpenAI-compatible models. It is also developing accelerated inference and floating-point mining systems, and says zero-knowledge proofs could protect data used in AI computations. NVIDIA Inception membership is not evidence of an NVIDIA investment or formal partnership. Pearl has also partnered with Together AI on an inference service that the companies say costs more than 25% less through mining subsidies.
The network’s hashrate has risen from 19 EH/s in May to 50 EH/s, and about 16.3% of PRL’s 2.1 billion maximum supply has been mined. Current issuance is estimated at 1.086 million PRL a day, worth about $1.52 million at $1.40 per token. Earlier estimates put mining returns at about $7.69 per day for an RTX 4090 and $10 for an RTX 5090, assuming electricity costs of $0.10 per kWh.
Commercial traction is still unproven: the available reporting gives no recurring revenue, inference-volume or customer-retention figures. Researchers have questioned whether mining calculations must serve paying AI customers; an MoE mining exploit and pending FP8 upgrades also point to technical risks. Most previously available mining pools have closed. Pearl has no conventional team or VC pre-mine, but its early mining reportedly generated 121.7 million PRL in about 5.9 days. The AI business also has no clear mechanism for driving demand for PRL. Traders will be weighing product adoption and rising hashrate against daily token issuance, potential miner selling and the gap between AI-service growth and token value capture.
Neutral
PRL has clear short-term catalysts: it has rebounded sharply, network hashrate has increased, and Pearl is announcing AI inference products and partnerships. Such developments can attract traders looking for growth in AI-related crypto projects. However, the rally alone does not establish sustained demand, and the reported product activity is not backed by disclosed recurring revenue, usage or retention figures.
Supply dynamics temper the bullish signals. Daily issuance of about 1.086 million PRL creates a potential source of miner selling, while early mining was rapid and most previously available pools have closed. The project also lacks a clear mechanism connecting growth in AI services to demand for PRL. Questions about whether mining work is commercially useful, the reported exploit and pending technical upgrades add uncertainty. In the short term, momentum and product news may support price but can also leave PRL vulnerable to volatility and profit-taking. Longer term, sustained value would depend on verifiable AI customer demand, reliable technical execution and stronger token value capture. On balance, the developments are offset by material supply and adoption risks, supporting a neutral rather than clearly bullish or bearish view.
